P90X Reviews
P90X, that is Power 90 Extreme, is a home fitness program developed by Tony Horton and marketed by Beachbody. It includes 12 DVD discs with workout video, a fitness guide, a nutrition plan, and a calendar to help you track progress. The required equipment includes a set of dumbbells or resistance bands, a pull-up bar, and a yoga mat. You may also need yoga blocks.
The main claim behind P90X is that for only 90 days it can help you burn fat and build muscle to get the body you dreamed about. P90X workouts include strength training, cardio and aerobic exercises, yoga and stretching, and even the martial art of Kenpo Karate.
P90X nutrition plan has three phases: the first higher-protein phase helps to lose body fat and begin building muscle, the second phrase balances protein and carbohydrates to provide you with more energy for exercises, and the last phrase introduces more complex carbohydrates and lean protein for even higher performance.
If you tried P90X, make sure to post a comment as we are very interested in learning about your first hand P90X experience and what results you achieved.

P90X helped me lose 30 lbs and six (SIX!) inches around the waist. I have more energy, more confidence, more flexibility, way less mental stress, and sleep better when I’m on the program than when I don’t do regular exercise. Cravings for sweets and/or alcohol disappear when I work out regularly. I haven’t looked this good since High School.
The program is HARD – the hardest part are the first two weeks as your body acclimatizes – and some of the workouts are harder than others (Ab Ripper for example). However, the programs are engaging, Tony is a great motivator, and once you become familiar with the routines, you start looking forward to the workouts. Most importantly, you miss them when you’re off the program.
If you’re new to the program, and new to regular fitness, start with the P90X lean schedule. It focuses more on cardio, helps with your breathing and cardiovascular system, and will get you in shape for the regular program, while still showing lots of good results. Also, as with any get fit regimen, diet accounts for 80% of weight loss results, while exercise counts for only 20% – so follow a fitness diet.
Two downfalls of the P90X program in my opinion:
1. Length of the workouts – between 60 & 90 minutes a day, 6 days a week, for most of the workouts. I work in the film industry, where crazy work hours (12-16 hrs a day at work) and irregular schedules are the norm. Sometimes the workouts had to be done at night, which meant I wouldn’t get to sleep until much later as my body settled down after the workout for a few hours. There are workouts out there that get the same amount accomplished in a shorter amount of time, however, the results from the regular workouts outweigh the occasional inconvenience.
2. The P90X diet plan isn’t as detailed or as thorough as the exercise program. The diet program tells you what to do but without explaining why you’re doing it, which makes it hard to understand, and therefore hard to stick to the program. I ended up ditching their diet plan and following a different weight loss diet program that worked along the same lines as the P90X diet (the Metabolic Effect diet, or ME diet), while learning more about nutrition through weightloss podcasts.
Conclusion – I LOVE this exercise program. I’m on my fourth round of P90X in 18 months. I highly recommend it for everyone it’s targeted for.
PS – I am NOT a Beachbody coach, or make any money from endorsing any of their products whatsoever. I just love this exercise program.
