Fight Hereditary High Blood Pressure by Exercising Regularly

A recent study has revealed some good news for people who have a hereditary problem of high blood pressure. The results of the study were disclosed at the World Congress of Cardiology on April 19. If you are fit and follow a healthy lifestyle, you can at least delay the onset of high pressure. Even after you suffer from hypertension, you can manage it quite easily. The study indicates that the body of a person who exercises regularly will be partially immune to hypertension.

Statistics Gathered from the Study

The study has determined that a moderate amount of exercise is sufficient to keep the body fit and healthy. By moderate amount of exercise, they mean 150 minutes of brisk walking per week. It amounts to an exercising duration of slightly more than 20 minutes per day.

The researchers gathered information from more than 6300 participants who followed a regular fitness routine. All of them were in the age group of 20 to 80 years. This study was carried out for a period of almost 5 years. More than 33% of the participants had at least one parent with high blood pressure. The results showed that the participants had reduced the probability of the onset of hypertension by a staggering 34 percent when compared to the people of the same age group who were not physically fit. It might not seem much, but considering it is a hereditary problem, the significance of 34% is very high.

During the course of study, more than 1500 people developed high blood pressure. The study proved that even without any history of hypertension in the family, the risk was reduced by 42% due to high fitness levels. Moderately fit people had reduced the risk of hypertension by 26%.

Lesser Known Benefits of Exercising Regularly

Other than the well known benefits of maintaining good fitness like reduced weight and high levels of activity, there are other lesser known benefits of exercising regularly.

In 2007, a study showed that regular exercise helped in the development of brain cells. The development was especially noticed in the regions of the brain related to both memory and learning. This effect was attribute for the fact that when you are exercising, your heart pumps faster than it normally would. So the brain receives a supply of highly oxygenated blood which helps in generation of brain cells.

In the same year, a study proved that with regular exercising and moderate amounts of caffeine intake, cancer can be prevented. This is because the combination of caffeine and regular exercising had the ability to destroy precancerous cells. With a combination of caffeine and exercise, the production of UVB-induced apoptotic cells increased by an astounding 400 percent. Only exercise and only caffeine boosted the production by 95% and 120% respectively.

The List Keeps Growing

From preventing hypertension and cancer to development of new brain cells, exercising can truly be an excellent activity. Although difficult to incorporate this in your lifestyle initially, once you get used to it, you will feel the need for it. It will become a part of your daily routine seamlessly, and you’ll start to enjoy it as well!
