Acai Berries and Weight Loss
Acai berries have been widely promoted as a dietary supplement that causes rapid and massive weight loss. Are there any scientific evidences that acai berries help lose weight or is it a scam?
What is an acai berry?
Acai is a grape-like berry from a palm free (Euterpe oleracea) cultivated in Central America and South America. Acai berries (frozen pulp or juice) are commonly used as an ingredient in beverages, smoothies and desserts. Acai berries can be sold in powder form as a dietary supplement under different names including acai extract, acai fruit, amazon acai berry, and assai.
What are benefits of acai berries?
Acai berries are rich in antioxidants and dietary fiber, both of which can also be found in other berries such as blackberry, blueberry, cranberry, strawberry and raspberry. There is not enough scientific evidence to prove that acai berries can be effective for weight loss, high cholesterol, and other conditions.
Acai berries scam
Acai berry weight-loss supplements are marketed all over the Internet with fake enforcements from talk show host Oprah Winfrey, celebrity chef Rachael Ray and other television personalities. Claims that acai berry dietary supplements can cause rapid and massive weight loss are deceptive.
